Our Next Workshop
Event
Euroblues Promotions Limited and the
Pocklington Civic Arts Centre, Pocklington, York is proud to
announce the return of the ‘Acoustic Blues Weekend’ of workshops,
jams and performance. Mark your calendar for Friday 26th
November to Sunday 28th November 2010.
The
programme will offer classes starting Friday from 1pm to 5pm and an
evening jam session from 8pm to midnight for ‘participants only’.
On Saturday, classes will run from 10am to 5pm followed by a public
staff concert at 8pm. On Sunday, classes will run from 10am to
4pm. The classes will cater for all levels and we recommend you
bring along a portable recorder to record your classes for future
reference. The tutors for the ‘Acoustic Blues Weekend’ are Eddie
Martin (harmonica), Michael Messer (bottleneck slide guitar) and
Michael Roach (country blues guitar).
Born in London, Eddie
Martin started playing acoustic guitar and harmonica at the age of
16. He became a keen student of Dr Ross and Joe Hill Louis. Today,
he is recognised as the outstanding one-man blues band in the UK.
With 10 acclaimed CD/DVD releases on Blueblood Records, his 13-year
professional career has seen him run numerous workshops for blues
guitarists and harmonica players. For the weekend, Eddie’s class is
for all levels.
Working through a course book, the emphasis is on
playing to get you through basic techniques (e.g. bending and trill)
to more advanced techniques (e.g. tongue block) using jams and set
pieces.
Michael Messer is a slide guitar
master. His obsessive appetite for knowledge of the art is
virtually unequalled. He has just launched 2 budget Resonator model
guitars with a great design that will give players the classic tone,
volume & feel of an original 1930s metal bodied resonator guitar.
To further reflect the esteem in which he is held, Newtone Strings
in conjunction with National Reso-phonic Guitars have a Michael
Messer brand specifically made for the National Steel Guitar. For
the weekend, Michael will conduct a 'master class' on bottleneck
styles.
Michael Roach from Washington, D.C.,
is the founder of the European Blues Association and the Director of
the annual Blues Week and Weekend programmes. He has had years of
experience organising concerts, directing festivals and conducting
workshops. With six CD albums to his credit, Michael is firmly
established in acoustic blues music circles. He will teach
beginning to advanced chord progressions, rhythm, and playing
alternating bass patterns in country blues guitar techniques.
The registration fee is £120 (£110
conc) for the weekend. A single day rate for Saturday only is £70
(£65 conc) and includes evening concert followed by the late night
jam. The rate for Sunday is £55 (£50 conc). Advance booking is
required and all fees are payable to the Pocklington Civic Arts
Centre Box Office at (01759) 301 547.
Regarding accommodation, the Feathers
Hotel (01759 303 155) is a 2-minute walk from the Arts Centre. They
only have 16 rooms (13 doubles, 2 twins and 1 family) and when
booking your reservation, make sure you quote: "Pocklington Arts
Centre Blues Weekend" to get a special discounted rate. Pocklington
Arts Centre also has a list of other accommodation, including local
B&Bs available from the Box Office.
